At Penn I co-directed the Penn Social Norms Group and worked with UNICEF on how to measure and monitor change in harmful social norms. Child marriage was one of the phenomena we studied: a widespread practice that calls for careful M&E of beliefs, expectations, and behaviors, not just outcomes.
Below is a well-cited paper I coauthored with Professor Bicchieri in Frontiers in Psychology. It lays out a structured diagnostic for collective practices and shows how it guides surveys, experiments, and vignettes for social-norms work.
